Duco joins exclusive class of presenters at Hockey Coaches Conference

By Andrea Elliott

TORONTO - Ryerson University and the Mattamy Athletic Centre will be the host venue for the eighth annual Hockey Coaches Conference from July 18-20.

The Hockey Coaches Conference provides a platform for professional coaches and human performance experts to share their experience and best practices with fellow coaches. This year’s roster of attendees and speakers extend beyond the professional ranks, however.

Ryerson Rams men’s hockey head coach Johnny Duco has been named a speaker for the conference, along with U SPORTS colleague Gardiner MacDougall from the University of New Brunswick. Duco and MacDougall are the first to represent the Canadian university system in the eight-year history of the event.

“I am extremely excited to be involved in such a first-class event,” said Duco. “The opportunity to listen and learn from some of the best coaches in the world is certainly something I cherish. The Coaches site has put together a great lineup of coaches and I can’t wait to learn from some of the greatest hockey minds.”

Five different National Hockey League clubs will be in attendance as speakers, including head or assistant coaches from Buffalo, Winnipeg, Washington, Vegas, and San Jose.

Participants will take part in keynote presentations, panel discussions, live interviews and on-ice demonstrations. This year’s conference is expected to be one of the largest gatherings of hockey coaches ever assembled.

Duco’s presentation will take place on-ice with Rams assistant coach Nathaniel Brooks joining him for the demonstration.
