Stars of the Week
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are pleased to announce the following student-athletes as the Stars of the Week, ending September 15.
Abdallah El-Chanti - Soccer - 4th Year - Geographic Analysis
The fourth year captain netted a pair of goals this weekend, both coming in the same game to help the Rams earn a draw against Ontario Tech. El-Chanti finished off a ball in the box from a free ball delivery, then added a highlight worthy goal where he deked around numerous defenders before slotted the ball into the back of the net. Last year's leading goal scorer now has three tallies this season.
Katie Joyce - Soccer - 3rd Year - Medical Physics
The third year midfielder registered her first points of the season this weekend, and they came at a crucial time to lead the Rams to a win over Trent. Joyce opened the scoring on Friday night when she converted on a cross into the box and rifled the ball into the net. Later in the match, Joyce would set up the game-winning goal for her first assist of the year.
Brooke Pearson - Soccer - 2nd Year - Architectural Science
Pearson's opportunistic mindset helped the Rams sweep their weekend series as she recorded goals in both matches. On Friday night Pearson curled a beautiful strike from distance into the top corner of the net for the game-winning goal, leaving no chance for the Trent keeper. She followed up that performance with a strong game against Ontario Tech where she scored an insurance marker to help the Rams to a 3-0 win.
Muaz Saleh - Soccer - 3rd Year - Mechanical Engineering
A second straight week in the Stars of the Week for Saleh, he had another strong weekend of action which has led him to the top of the OUA scoring leaderboard. Saleh potted a pair of goals on Friday night as the Rams defeated Trent. Saleh now has five goals this season and sits alone in first in the OUA in that department.
Sam Turcotte - Baseball - 2nd Year - Business Management
The second year catcher had a strong weekend of play for the baseball team, hitting at a .500 clip and driving in three runs. Turcotte also scored four runs himself. Defensively, Turcotte showed off his arm by throwing out two attempted base stealers.
Jade Vyfhuis - Soccer - 1st Year - Sociology
The first year forward recorded her first OUA points this weekend as the Rams won their two matches. On Sunday afternoon Vyfhuis made a strong run down the right flank and outworked her defender to send in a cross, which was headed home by teammate Pearson, to give Vyfhuis her first assist. Just six minutes later Vyfhuis found herself with space after a Ridgebacks' turnover and she fired the ball into the goal for her first of the season.
