Stars of the Week

By Andrea Elliott

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are pleased to announce the following student-athletes as the Stars of the Week, ending September 1.

Mansoor Afzaly - Soccer - 1st Year - Undeclared Arts
Afzaly had quite a debut in his first game as a Ram, scoring just 13 minutes into the game for his first OUA goal. The midfielder showed his creative abilities and was able to generate offence for Ryerson throughout the game. He finished with two shots on goal as Ryerson beat Queen's.

Andrew Dias - Soccer - 4th Year - RTA: Sport Media
A solid start to the season for the fourth year defender, Dias helped anchor the back line while also contributing offensively. He was credited with two assists over the weekend, tying his total from all of 2018.

Luca Di Marco - Soccer - 1st Year - Business Management
Another strong debut for a first year player, Di Marco came in as a late substitute in Ryerson's season opener and made an immediate impact. Within three minutes of being on the pitch, Di Marco found the back of the net for his first OUA goal. Seven minutes later Di Marco set up Sean Fafinski for the Rams final goal and to finish with a goal and an assist in his first game.

Savahnna Robinson - Soccer - 2nd Year - Arts & Contemporary Studies
Returning to the Rams lineup after missing last season, Robinson played a vital role in the Rams midfield on opening weekend. Robinson, a former OUA all-star, controlled the pace of play for Ryerson and helped set up the offence. Though she didn't record a point herself, her work helped the Rams score four goals on opening weekend.

Alex Rodkin - Soccer - 5th Year - Social Work
The fifth year forward scored Ryerson's first goal of the season on Saturday, netting a game-tying goal against Queen's in the opening half of play. She would continue to generate chances on Sunday against RMC, registering four shots, two of them on target. Rodkin's presence helped to open chances for other players as well, as Ryerson notched a three-goal win over RMC.

BreAnah Webster - Soccer - 3rd Year - Arts & Contemporary Studies
A top notch defender, Webster has also become a key component to the Rams set pieces. Webster's ability to deliver the ball into dangerous areas was apparent this weekend as she recorded assists on two of Ryerson's four goals. She set up Rodkin against Queen's and then assisted on the game-winning goal at RMC on Sunday afternoon.

The Stars of the Week is an opportunity for several of our exceptional student-athletes to be recognized each week. Stay tuned for the release of our Athletes of the Week.
