Nate Fields is in his fourth season as an assistant coach at Marist, and is now is his seventh year of association with the program dating back to his days as a student.
For the fourth consecutive season, Fields will coach the team's wide receivers. He is also is his second season as special teams coordinator, and has added the responsibility of working with the team's tight ends this season.
In his first season as receivers coach in 2009, Fields' tutelage helped James LaMacchia achieve the greatest statistical season by a wide receiver in program history. LaMacchia set the program records for receptions (62) and yards (1,075) in a season, becoming the first player in program history to have 1,000 yards receiving in a season en route to being a unanimous First Team All-Pioneer Football League selection.
In 2010, LaMacchia set the program's single-season record with 74 receptions and broke the career marks for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns as he once against was named First Team All-PFL. Fields also helped Michael Rios earned Honorable Mention All-PFL honors, as he had four touchdown receptions of over 60 yards. The 2010 Red Foxes set a single-season program record for passing yards with 2,950.
Fields has also mentored Kevin Fitzpatrick, who received an invitation to Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp in the spring of 2012.
Fields spent the 2006-08 seasons as a student assistant on the Red Foxes' staff. He spent one season on the Marist video staff, filming games and practices, before moving onto the field for the 2007 season. He worked specifically with the offensive line, assisting offensive line coach Bill Roos in practice with preparation and drills. On game day, Fields staffed the coaches' booth, charting game situations as well as defensive personnel, front and blitzes.
Off the field, Fields assisted the coaching staff with game planning, opponent film breakdown, and all facets of video editing. He will continue to perform those jobs this season.
Fields earned both a Bachelors of Communications and Masters of Business Administration at Marist. He and his wife, Haley, reside in Kingston.
