"The Spider Walk" is one of the newest University of Richmond Football traditions, beginning during the Spiders' National Championship season of 2008, and has quickly become one of the most popular Gameday activities.
As the team arrived on Gamedays at old University of Richmond Stadium, Spider fans greeted the team's buses and formed a human tunnel as the players walked from the bus to the Stadium.
The tradition's galvanizing moment came in Chattanooga, Tenn. as Richmond's players, coaches and staff arrived at Finley Stadium on the night of the National Championship Game. Thousands of Spider Fans packed the stadium's tunnel, welcoming their team with a deafening roar. Richmond carried that momentum on to the field, beating Montana 24-7 and claiming the school's first-ever National Championship.
