Coming ... The Making of the QB Spring Football Promo
Jared Goff, Austin Hinder and Zach Kline have all displayed strong quarterback play this spring but how many takes do you think it took the trio to record the combined six-second speaking role they had in the video for the QB Spring Game Promo. We'll show you with a pretty cool video of the outtakes tomorrow and the only thing we can guarantee is ... it took a little longer than six seconds.

Thanks for Visiting Mr. Miller

Double Duty
Jacob Wark chose not to live the life of leisure during his time at Cal. The native of Tualatin, Oregon is a rare multi-sport student-athletes in college athletics these days, playing wide receiver for the California football team and right field for the Golden Bear baseball team. Here's his story.

Post-Practice w/Dykes and Wark
Our cameras caught up to head coach Sonny Dykes and tight end Jacob Wark after Friday night's practice. Wark had a special story as he talked about playing in a baseball game earlier in the day (an 8-1 Cal victory over Fresno State at Evans Diamond) before heading up the hill for Friday night's football work. He'll have time to take a "nap" before being back at Memorial Stadium for Saturday's football practice and scrimmage. Check CalBears.com for a feature on Wark's busy day soon.

Cochran and Crosthwaite Taking Big Steps on Offensive Line
It's still nearly six months until the 2013 season opener against Northwestern at Memorial Stadium on August 31, but as the position battles continue during spring ball two players who seem to be taking big steps towards relevance on the offensive line are redshirt freshman Matt Cochran and junior Alejandro Crosthwaite. Veteran Defensive Leaders Buying In
While much of the talk about the Cal football team this offseason has revolved around the Golden Bears' revamped offense, much of the team's ultimate success in 2013 will likely to be tied to a defensive unit that brings back some of its top players from a year ago including the veteran trio of senior defensive lineman Deandre Coleman, junior linebacker Nick Forbes and junior defensive back Kameron Jackson. For the full story visit CalBears.com.

Lots of Opportunities for Lawler
After the first three sessions of Cal's 2013 spring practices, it is readily apparent that there will be lots of opportunities to go around. The Bears certainly get a lot of reps in during their fast-paced workouts and one player who looks to be taking advantage of the extra workload is redshirt freshman wide receiver Kenny Lawler.

Dykes After Second Practice
Here are a few quick quotes from head coach Sonny Dykes following Cal's second practice of spring ball on Wednesday. For the full video of his post-practice interview session, visit youtube.com/calathletics.

On practice - "It probably wasn't as clean as you want it to be but I thought our effort was good, I thought our enthusiasm was good. It's always going to be a work in progress."

On quarterbacks - "We've basically repped five guys now. We'll try to sit down and evaluate it, look at everybody's numbers, see what they did. The idea is basically eliminate two, three guys until we have a starter. That's what we'll sit down as a staff and try to do ... The thing you want to do is give everybody an opportunity. That's the biggest thing. These guys work their tail off to get an opportunity and you want to make sure they have enough of a chance to show what they can and can't do. Once you do that then you want to start to be a little more careful with who you're giving reps to."

On the team's work ethic - "That's the good thing with this group right now, they've worked incredibly hard and have done what we've asked them to do."

On the team's competitiveness in practice - "We want it to be competitive and when you're trying to create as many competitive situations as you can there's going to be some guys that get mad at each other occasionally. We'll live with that. We don't want it to happen to often. We want guys to do a good job of taking care of each other but we want the competitive juices to flow, and we want the guys to compete against each other as hard as they can every single day. That's really important for us."

On the team's running backs - "I've liked really all three of them really. Coprich has done some nice things, he's been good. Darren Ervin's been really consistent. I've been pleased with the entire group honestly. They're all different. That's the thing that makes them a little bit unique. They've all got different strengths and bring different things to the table but they've all been pretty consistent. They do a good job holding on to the football for the most part and finished some runs pretty well. [But] the running backs, you can always tell more about those guys when you put pads on, especially in scrimmages, guys start to show up, so it's hard to tell right now."

Bears Wrap Up Second Spring Practice
The Bears have wrapped up their second spring practice a short time ago at Memorial Stadium. The day started for head coach Sonny Dykes at 6:30 a.m. when a film crew met him at his house to film a "day in the life piece" for distribution later this spring on Pac-12 Networks. The crew filmed him saying goodbye to his family at home and then drove with him to work before following him around for a day that included a staff meeting, watching film in his office, an interview with a nationally prominent sportswriter, two position meetings, practice, a one-on-one interview and even a little bit of exercise. Whew!!

Check back later tonight and early Thursday for more on Wednesday's practice.

Cal's first 2013 spring practice is complete. A couple of early and obvious observations were the practice's fast pace and the enthusiasm of both the players and the couple hundred fans in attendance at the open session. Head coach Sonny Dykes and several players spoke to the media following the workout. We'll have those interviews and much more posted soon.
