Great Danes Ousted From AE Tourney with 1-0 Loss to Stanford

Short story: The University at Albany field hockey team was edged by Stanford, 1-0, in the final minutes of the fourth period on Thursday in the America East Quarterfinals.

The UAlbany field hockey team saw the 2019 season end in the America East Quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon.

Corinne Zanolli scored the lone goal of the game and for the Cardinals in the 52nd minute off a Stanford penalty corner. Zanolli send a shot that went low right to beat UAlbany goalkeeper Melissa Nealon who finished the game with three saves.

Katie MacCallum and Dana Bozek led the Great Danes with three shots on goal apiece but neither player could break through a tough Stanford defense. Elaina Burchell recorded the final shot on goal.

Rachel Schannauer registered a timely defensive save in the first quarter to keep the score 0-0. The junior finishes the season with a team- and career-high four defensive saves.

The Great Danes finished the year with an 11-8 overall record. Senior Dana Bozek was named the America East Midfielder of the Year and earned America East First Team All-Conference honors. She was joined on the first team by Melissa Nealon and Kelsey McCrudden. Katie MacCallum and Julie Rodijk were named to the All-Conference Second Team, while Rodijk also earned All-Rookie Team honors. Bozek, Nealon, McCrudden and Carli Pelletier were tabbed All-Academic selections.
