Bauer Named Reserve National Champion at IHSA Finals
LEXINGTON, KY. – College of Charleston senior Victoria Bauer was named Reserve National Champion in individual open flat and Cacchione Cup Reserve National Champion at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Nation Finals at Kentucky Horse Park over the weekend. She was also presented the Achievement of Excellence Award for her style, effective riding and potential to excel in the sport of equestrian.
Bauer opened the competition against 16 other riders on Thursday challenging for the championship title in the individual open flat class, where she finished second.
“At this level of competition, the smallest thing can be the difference between Champion and Reserve,” CofC head coach Bob Story said. “ I was really pleased with how Vitoria rode and that she was Reserve National Champion.”
The Cacchione Cup class was held on Friday, where the field narrowed and Bauer was eventually tested among the top three remaining riders. The Santa Clarita, Calif., native scored 176, just three points shy of the leader and was named Reserve National Champion.
The Cacchione Cup determines the top intercollegiate rider in the nation. There are three phases to the Cacchione Cup: fences, flat and testing. CofC’s Eliza Hay won the Cacchione Cup title last year.
