BROOKLET, Georgia - The College of Charleston equestrian team tied for the reserve championship at Georgia Southern’s Evermore Farm on Saturday in the first Zone 5 Region 3 competition of the season. Georgia Southern and South Carolina tied for the championship with 31 points while CofC and Converse College tied with 29 points.

The day started out rough in the over fences with the Cougars posting just five points after three classes.

“It’s hard to overcome a double-digit deficit but I felt that our flat riders could go out and win their classes and at least close the gap or win it outright,” said equestrian head coach Bob Story.

Senior Victoria Bauer was the first to win a class for the team in the open flat, while sophomore Hannah Showell placed second in the intermediate flat to earn another five points. Senior walk, trot, canter rider, Taylor Bibianni, rode to a first place finish, followed by freshman Laura Wenzel, who earned second place for the College of Charleston Equestrian team in the walk, trot flat.

Other placings included a win in the novice over fences by freshman Hannah Bentz, a win in the intermediate flat by sophomore Annie Kuniansky, a second place finish in the walk, trot, canter by freshman Emma Bernstein, a win in the novice flat by sophomore Christina Hayden, a win in the walk, trot, canter by senior Jenna Terribile, and a win in the walk, trot, canter by senior Victoria Gonzalez.

The College of Charleston ended up with 29 points overall, two points behind first place. CofC will compete at the University of South Carolina show October 17-18.
