CHARLESTON, S.C. – A big-conference opening weekend awaits for the College of Charleston volleyball team as it plays host to two of its biggest league rivals in Hofstra on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. (ET) and Northeastern on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. (ET) at TD Arena.

The Cougars (7-5) will look to avenge a regular-season series sweep by the Pride (10-3) in 2015. However, both teams last met in the first round of the CAA Championship where fifth-seeded CofC prevailed over fourth-seeded Hofstra in five sets, 3-2, in Harrisonburg, Va.

Last season, the Cougars swept the Huskies (9-4) in back-to-back four-set wins on the road and at home. All matches are free admission to the public. Live video will be available for the Hofstra match only at: https://portal.stretchinternet.com/charleston/

Coach Kepner’s Thoughts on CAA Play: “It’s going to be a touch opening weekend for us starting off with Hofstra on Friday night. They beat us twice last year – in five (sets) here and 3-0 at their place. They return pretty much everyone on their team from last year. We really have to be on our game on Friday night to put ourselves in a position to win against Hofstra. Northeastern is getting better and better every year. They are healthy now after having some injuries the last couple of years. They beat Boston College last weekend to prepare themselves for conference play. We are glad this weekend is at home putting us in the comfortable confines of TD Arena with all of our fans cheering us on. We are looking forward to it.”

CAA Flashback: The Cougars became the first No. 5 seed to advance to the title match of the CAA Championship. They have made three-straight appearances in the championship match since joining the league in 2013.

Conference Strength: CofC was one of four CAA teams to earn wins over ACC foes last weekend. The Cougars stunned Virginia in a five-set thriller at the Baylor Classic, while Delaware beat Miami (3-2). Northeastern and UNCW also joined the club with 3-0 and 3-1 victories over Boston College and NC State respectively.

Getting Defensive: Sophomore libero McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) was the lone Cougar named to the Baylor Classic All-Tournament Team tabbed as Best Libero of the tournament with a combined 61 digs (5.55 digs per set) against Washington State (receiving votes in the national poll), host Baylor and Virginia. Rhodes made a career-high 34 digs in a 3-2 comeback victory for the Cougars over UVA on Sept. 17. She currently leads the teams with 180 digs on the season.
