William Rainey shot even-par to tie for fourth individually to lead the College of Charleston men’s golf team to a third-place finish at The FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove held on Sept. 18-20 at the Grove Club in College Grove, Tenn. Rainey shot rounds of 71, 70 and 75 and led the 78-player tournament field in par-3 scoring (2.83). His second-round 70 tied his season low. As a team, the Cougars were in contention until the final three holes, but finished ahead of Power 5 schools in Georgia, Louisville, NC State and Wisconsin.

Laura Ortega | Women’s Soccer | Sophomore | Aranjuez, Spain | Undeclared

Laura Ortega was the catalyst for the Cougars this week, as the College of Charleston women’s soccer team won both of its matches to improve to 7-3 on the season. The Spaniard notched a game-winning assist in a 1-0 shutout of Radford and earned a goal in a 3-1 win over Jacksonville. Not only that, Ortega set-up both other goals against the Dolphins, her set-piece leading to Rio Speller-Drews’ game-winning header, and her feed into the box eventually setting up Ali Freitas’ chip-in. She currently leads The College in shots (41) and points (12) on the year. Under her guidance on the offensive end, the Cougars have achieved a seven-game winning streak, and have outshot opponents 150-55 over that span.
