Women's Soccer Faces ETSU Friday at Home

LEXINGTON, Va. – Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, the VMI women’s soccer team plays host to Southern Conference foes ETSU and Western Carolina Friday and Sunday, respectively, for afternoon contests at Patchin Field.


The Keydets (1-14-1, 0-7 SoCon) take on the Bucs Friday at 4 p.m. while the Sunday matchup with Western Carolina will take place at 2 p.m. Both contests will be broadcast on ESPN+.


VMI looks to return to the win column after last claiming victory on August 29 at Delaware State. The Keydets are coming off a 1-0 loss to Chattanooga last Friday before falling by a 5-0 score to league leader Samford on Sunday.


VMI has four different goal scorers to this point of the season all coming from its 4-0 win over Delaware State and one goal against Wofford earlier this month. Whitney Edwards-Roberson, Maggie Beckman, Kiley Cropper and Maria Vargas (2) have tallied the scores this season for the Keydets.


Vargas and Edwards-Roberson lead the team in shot attempts this season with 23 while Julianne Knoblett is close behind with 22.


About the Bucs (5-9-3, 1-5-1 SoCon)

ETSU enters the match with momentum following a 3-1 victory over The Citadel Sunday at home. Last Friday, the Bucs were defeated by a close 2-1 score in double overtime to visiting Mercer in Johnson City. Prior to last weekend, the Bucs had lost three of four matches and registered a 0-0 tie with Chattanooga on October 6.


Sarah Connolly leds ETSU with six goals on the year while Maegan Sours and Beatrice Abati both have three goals. Four others own a pair of goals on the season to this point. Connolly also leads the team with 41 shots on the year.
