Karin Lichey Usry begins her first year as a volunteer coach, though the Gym Dog program is nothing new to her. Usry was a Gym Dog herself from 1996-1999, part of both NCAA Championship teams in 1998 and 1999.

She was a big part of those back-to-back NCAA title efforts, earning first-team All-America certificates in all five categories both of those years. She earned a total of 11 All-America awards in her career.

Additionally, Karin was the 1998 NCAA Floor Exercise Champion and was recognized by the SEC as its Freshman of the Year in 1996 and Gymnast of the Year in 1999. But one of the things she is best remembered for was a meet her freshman year where she scored a perfect 40.0. She remains the only collegiate gymnast ever to accomplish this feat.

She also works in the Georgia Center in event planning and will keep that job in addition to her new volunteer duties for the Gym Dogs, which include assisting in choreography among other aspects.
