FOLEY, ALA. (11/8/19) – For the first time in school history, the Arkansas State women’s soccer team has advanced to the championship game of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, with a 1-0 win over No. 7 Louisiana, Friday night at the Foley Sports and Tourism Complex.

Following the win, the Red Wolves have tied the school record for most wins in a single season as they now have 11.

In the 88th minute, Naperville, ill., native Hailey Furio scored the lone goal for the Red Wolves, when she gathered for a free kick, then launched the ball off of her right foot which then found the back of the net, through the bottom right corner. 

High Ridge, Mo., native Olivia Smith led the charge for the Red Wolves offensively as shot took four shots on the night. Hannah Maupin and Haley Husted added to the attack as they each had two shots while Abby Harris, Julianna Coates and Dana O’Boye each took one. 

Webster Groves, Mo., native Megan McClure made five impressive saves for the Red Wolves as Louisiana goal keeper Mackenzie Lee registered seven on the night. Arkansas State outshot the Cajuns 13-9 and had an 8-5 edge in shots on goal.

McClure picked up her ninth shutout of the season, which further extends the school record for most shutouts in a single-season by a goal keeper.

In the championship match, the Red Wolves will take on the winner of No. 1 South Alabama and No. 5 Georgia State, Sunday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. The Championship match will air on ESPN+ and live stats can be viewed at The winner of the match will clinch an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
