Former WBB Player Marquisha Harris Signs Pro Contract in Spain
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Former Western Michigan women’s basketball player Marquisha Harris signed a pro contract with Unio Esportiva Matara, a basketball team in Spain’s League named Liga Catalana.
“I know this has been a dream of Marquisha's for a very long time,” WMU head coach Shane Clipfell said. “She put herself in position for this opportunity by attending a camp down in Atlanta, Ga. where she not only made the USA Jones Cup team but also caught the eye of an agent. Now she has been presented with the opportunity she has always wanted and we will be pulling for her all the way.”
Harris, a 2015 graduate, was a two-year starter at WMU and was named Honorable Mention All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) her sophomore and junior seasons. As a sophomore, she was named the Team’s MVP and won the Coaches’ Award. As a junior, she won a share of the Team MVP while finishing second on the team in scoring for the second straight season.
“I'm extremely thankful for the opportunity I've been given,” Harris said. “The Lord works in mysterious ways. And if it was not for Jermaine Barnes (Harris’ coach on the USA Jones Cup Team) I may not have been given this opportunity. He was the one that has the faith and confidence in me that I can play at this level.”
