DETROIT -- Western Michigan hockey alum Danny DeKeyser has agreed to a six-year extension with the Detroit Red Wings, as announced by the team on Tuesday morning.

Prior to his NHL career, DeKeyser helped WMU to the 2012 Central Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament Championship and two berths in the NCAA Tournament. In his three seasons with the Broncos he played in 118 games, scoring 12 goals and racking up 37 assists. He also became the first player in program history to twice win the CCHA Best Defensive Defenseman Award.

DeKeyser signed immediately after the conclusion of his junior season and has been a mainstay on the Red Wings blue line ever since. He is coming off his third full season in Detroit and ranked second on the team in average time on ice at 21:48. He had a banner year offensively, netting a career-best eight goals. The Detroit native also led the team in blocked shots with 107.

In his four seasons he has played in 234 career regular season games, scoring 14 goals and 61 assists for 75 points. He's also appeared in 19 post-season games.
