Antoine Smith is in his third season as a member of TomGilmore’s coaching staff in 2013, serving as the defensiveline coach. He has coached three All-Patriot League selectionsduring his two years with the Crusaders, in Gary Acquah, JackMaliska and Mike Tucker.
Smith came to Holy Cross after spending two seasons as thedefensive line coach at Miami (Ohio) University. During the 2010campaign, Smith helped lead the RedHawks to the Mid-AmericanConference title, and a victory in the GoDaddy.com Bowl. Inaddition, defensive tackle Austin Brown earned second team AllMid-American Conference honors in 2010.
Prior to his time at Miami (Ohio), Smith served as the defensiveline coach at Youngstown State from 2006-2008, with the Penguinswinning the 2006 Gateway Conference championship and advancing tothe NCAA semifinals. His unit had six All-Missouri ValleyConference selections in his three seasons, including a third teamAll-American in defensive tackle Mychal Savage.
Smith was previously the defensive line coach at Lafayette from2004-2005, helping the Leopards to a pair of Patriot Leagueco-championships and two NCAA playoff appearances. During the 2005campaign, he helped to direct a defense which ranked ninth in thenation in scoring defense (17.0 points per game), 11th in totaldefense (296.9 yards per game), 19th in pass defense (166.9 yardsper game) and 28th in rush defense (130.0 yards per game).
Before moving to Lafayette, Smith spent the 2003 season as thedefensive line coach at Maine. The Black Bears finished with a 7-5mark, while Smith’s entire front-line unit receivedAll-Atlantic 10 accolades.
Smith previously spent the 2002 season as the defensive linecoach and strength and conditioning coordinator at Minot State inNorth Dakota. He helped guide Minot State to the 2002 DakotaAthletic Conference championship, a 9-2 record and a berth in theNAIA playoffs, the Beavers’ first since 1994.
Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in physical educationand kinesiology from Maine in 2001, and his master’s degreein health and human performance from Minot State in 2004. He was athree-year starter at defensive tackle and a four-year letterwinnerfor Maine from 1996-1999.
