SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Greensboro (11-20, 5-11 SoCon) volleyball saw its 2019 season come to an end in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Volleyball Championship, as the No. 7 seeded Spartans on Friday evening fell to No. 2 ETSU 3-1 (13-25, 18-25, 31-29, 16-25).
Early in the first set, UNCG was able to rally from a 3-1 deficit to a 4-3 lead after senior Lauren Robeck logged a kill to pull the Spartans ahead. UNCG, however, would not lead again in the opening frame before falling 25-13.
In the second set, the Spartans rebounded from being down 4-0 to start to tie it up at eight points apiece due to an attack error by ETSU’s Lauren Hatch. Despite being tied at that point, UNCG dropped the second set 25-18.
While ETSU was within two points of sweeping UNCG, the Spartans had other plans late in the third set. Down 23-20, UNCG pulled even at 24 points when Robeck tallied a service ace. UNCG and ETSU would again be tied up four more times in the third set before UNCG claimed a 31-29 victory.
The final frame went the Buccaneers’ way at 25-16.
