Kate Ziegler is student at George Mason and a World Class swimmer... currently training with coach Ray Benecki for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing... Hopes to swim the 800, 400 and 4x200 relay for the US at the Olympics... Won gold in the 400 and 800-meter freestyle at US Nationals this summer and a bronze in the 200 meter freestyle... Broke the longest-standing world record when she shattered Janet Evans's 19-year-old record in the 1,500 meter freestyle in June... Won two gold medals at the 2007 World Championships in the 800 and 1,500 and was a double gold medalist in the same two events at the 2005 World Championships... Won two gold medals at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships... Won the Golden Goggles Award for Female Performance of the Year in 2005 (World Champs 1500m free). High School: Graduated from Bishop O'Connell High School in Arlington ... Earned four Washington Post All-Met honors, including being Swimmer of the Year... As a freshman, she finished 3rd in the 200y freestyle (1:51.59) and won the 500y freestyle (4:47.78) at the 2003 Metros Swimming and Diving Championships, breaking the then-15-year-old record in the 500 held by Pam Minthorn... As a senior, she tied the National High School record in the 200y free (1:45.49) and breaking Janet Evans' National Record in the 500y free (4:30.35)... Two-time High School All-American... Three-time National A Team (2004-06)... A member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Society.
