Men's Golf Wraps Up Texas Tournament in 13th

BRYAN, Texas – Charlotte golf battled a tough Traditions Golf Club finishing the Aggie Invitational in 13th place on Sunday. Nicolas Manifacier had the team’s best round on Sunday while Seth Gandy posted the best tournament finish. Oklahoma State won the event by two shots over LSU.

Manifacier shot a two-over round of 74 after starting with a double bogey on the opening hole 10th. One birdie on the first nine started his day with a three-over side of 39 before three birdies on the final side led to a one-under 35 and round of 74.

Gandy opened with a birdie on #10 and added back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15 to get back to one-under through six. After three pars to make the turn, Gandy would scatter four bogies over his final four holes to shoot a three-over 75.

Tyler Young finished as the third team score on Sunday starting his day with 10-straight pars making the turn with an even par 36. A three-hole stretch of bogey and two more over his final eight holes led to his day of 77 (+5).

Thomas Rowland concluded one shot back of Young with a 78 to round out team scoring. Rowland, like Gandy, began his day with a birdie in front of four bogies added up to his front nine 39 (+3). Rowland would do the same with another birdie and four bogies for an identical round of 39 (+3).

Victor Wiggins suffered through an uncharacteristic day with a round of 82 (+10) to finish his Texas tournament. Wiggins converted his lone birdie in between two-straight bogies on Sunday.

“We just didn’t really play well at all this weekend,” quipped Head Coach Ryan Cabbage. “I didn’t do a good enough job of preparing our guys for a golf course that they had not seen before. As I said before the tournament, this golf course is challenging and requires you to be on top of your game in every aspect. We just were not very good this weekend. But, this one is over and we now have to move on to Irish Creek next weekend.”

The 49ers will indeed co-host the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate next Saturday and Sunday at The Club at Irish Creek. The 54-hole format will feature 36 holes on Saturday followed by the final 18 on Sunday. Admission will be free and is open to the public.
