Rams continue perfect start to season with rain-shortened win over Trent
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams men’s soccer team maintains their perfect to start to the season with a 4-0 win over the Trent Excalibur on Friday night.
In-form Muaz Saleh (Hamilton, Ont.) bagged two goals in the first half to bring his goal tally to an OUA-high of five. Ali Ghazanfari (Stouffville, Ont.) also secured his third clean sheet of the season after a rather quiet night in goal.
The Rams carried the momentum from their 4-0-0 record with a goal in the first minute of the match, followed by another in the 20th minute and many more chances created in the half.
Aryan Hakim (King City, Ont.) opened the second half with his third goal of the season in the 47th minute to give the Rams some breathing room. Finally, Rams midfielder Veni Koutsoulianos (Richmond Hill, Ont.) capped off the match with a late goal to secure the win.
Rams forward Kyle Laborde-Ayres (Toronto, Ont.) also featured in the second half, which was a first appearance in a Rams uniform for the second year transfer.
Head coach Filip Prostran had nothing but praises when asked about his leading goal-scorer Saleh, saying, “Physically he is an athletic freak. He is fast, strong and he can do everything. Muaz is a handful, that can score at any moment”.
Prostran went on to talk about Saleh’s character, expressing that “his work off the field is as good as his work on the field”.
The referee ended the game early due to thunderstorms, but the final score of 4-0 still remained, as the game ended at the 75th minute.
The Rams look to keep their win streak going at 1:00 p.m. this Sunday as they host Ontario Tech University.
