Kahleel Ellis-Garcia joins Rams' 2019-20 recruiting class
TORONTO — Ryerson’s men’s basketball team announced today the addition of NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) transfer Kahleel Ellis-Garcia to the team’s 2019-20 recruiting class.
A combo guard from Mississauga, Ont., Ellis-Garcia spent last season with Indian River State College in South Florida. He is set to hit the court for the Rams this fall.
“We are very excited to have Kahleel join our program,” says Rams coach Borko Popic. “He adds depth to our backcourt with his size and athleticism. He has a bright future and we look forward to his time with us.”
Ellis-Garcia started 30 of 31 games for Indian River State and finished the year with 269 points on 43 percent shooting. He earned All-Conference Second-Team honours after a standout season at the school.
Prior to his time with IRSC, Ellis-Garcia spent the 2017-18 season with Northwest Kansas Technical College. As such, he has three years of OUA eligibility remaining and will be listed as a junior on this year’s roster.
Ellis-Garcia self-describes as a “hardworking and dedicated athlete”.
A graduate of West Humber Collegiate Institute in Toronto, Ellis-Garcia will enter Ryerson’s Business Management program in the fall.
“I chose Ryerson because they really showed the interest I was looking for,” says Ellis-Garcia. “I’ve always wanted to play in my hometown and for them to give me that chance really means a lot and I am glad to be apart of the Ramily!”
