Rams to host 2020 OUA figure skating championship

By Andrea Elliott

TORONTO - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) recently released the list of championship hosts for the 2019-20 season and the Ryerson Rams are excited to have been named the host for this year’s figure skating championship.

Ryerson last hosted the competition at the Mattamy Athletic Centre back in the 2013-14 season when the Rams won a bronze medal with a third place overall finish. The hometown squad will be looking to capitalize on home ice advantage once again this season.

This past season the Rams finished in fifth place, capturing four medals during the two-day event. Among the Rams best results was a gold medal from Kaitlyn Wilson in the Star 10 Freeskate event. The OUA all-star will return to the Rams roster looking to replicate her success.

The 2019-20 championship will take place February 10-11, 2020 and will feature 14 events. Participating teams will look to dethrone the four-time reigning champion Toronto Varsity Blues. The Queen’s Gaels are the all-time winningest program, having won 16 OUA figure skating titles since competition began in the 1971-72 season.
