Cougars Get Back Into Action at The Intercollegiate at The Grove
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Five days removed from hosting and playing in its fall season opener, the College of Charleston men’s golf team gets back into action at the FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove on Sept. 18-20 at the par-72 Grove Club located just outside of Nashville in College Grove, Tenn.
This year’s 14-team tournament field includes CofC, host Middle Tennessee, who won The Invitational at The Ocean Course, Cincinnati, Elon, Georgia, Kennesaw State, Louisiana, Louisville, McNeese State, Memphis, Ole Miss, NC State, Troy and Wisconsin.
“I was pleased with our results from The Ocean Course,” said CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire on the Cougars’ Top 5 finish in their fall opener. “Our freshmen played well and we need for William (Rainey) to get back into form this week, which we know he will. This is the strongest tournament field of the fall and it would be nice to come out on top.”
Last year, the Cougars placed fourth behind No. 26-ranked Kentucky, Lipscomb and Middle Tennessee. Senior William Rainey (Charlotte, N.C.) was the team’s lowest finisher tied for seventh (+2).
He returns to the starting lineup at The Grove for the second year in a row along with senior Parker Derby (Columbus, Ga.), freshman Hunter Dunagan (Augusta, Ga.), freshman Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.). Sophomore Zach Bishop (Travelers Rest, S.C.) will compete as an individual.
The course will play at 7,368 yards with three 18-hole rounds played on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The Cougars will be paired with Wisconsin and tee-off the No. 1 in tomorrow’s first round at 9:24 a.m. (ET) / 10:24 a.m. (CT). Live tournament scoring will be available at: www.Golfstat.com.
