CHARLESTON, S.C. – Former College of Charleston All-American and New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner (2003-05) is one of 30 players nominated for the 2016 Roberto Clemente Award, as announced by Major League Baseball on Tuesday.

The award recognizes a MLB player for his on-the-field and off-the-field talents. Gardner was a charter member of the Taylor Hooton Foundation’s Advisory Board to educate youth about performance-enhancing drugs and his extensive community outreach also includes heavy involvement with the Ronald McDonald House in South Carolina and New York.

Roberto Clemente Day will be celebrated across the league on Wednesday, Sept. 7, and fans can use the hashtag #VoteGardy to cast a vote for Gardner on Twitter and the Facebook pages for MLB and the Yankees.
