ATLANTA- Georgia State fell to Louisiana 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 27-25) during Sunday’s afternoon contest at GSU Sports Arena. The loss drops the Panthers to 3-5 in Sun Belt play.

Leah Wilcox and Meisheia Griffin both posted 11 kills in the effort. This marked the fifth double-digit kill performance by Wilcox this season. Jordan Shoemaker and Kampbell Hehr continued to split setting responsibility. The duo combined for 35 assists in the match.

Defensively,  Lauren Bandera led the match with 16 digs. At the net Griffin added three blocks.

Georgia State and Louisiana would go back and forth in the opening frame. The two squads would battle to 17 ties. The Panthers would record a .314 hitting percentage, but the defense could not slow a late 3-0 scoring by the Ragin’ Cajuns. Louisiana took the set 25-23.

The Ragin’ Cajuns would continue their momentum into the second and would jump to a five point lead early. A GSU 4-0 scoring run would close the gap, but the Louisiana hitting core would record a .400 hitting percentage compared to State’s .190. The Ragin’ Cajuns cruised to a 25-17 victory.

In the third the Panthers would take the first point and would not relinquish the lead until the Rajun’ Cajins found holes deep in GSU territory, tying the match at 16. Two blocks from Griffin would give GSU the edge, but Louisiana continued to fight, tying the match at 19, 23, 24, and 25. Louisiana would eventually outlast Georgia State by a score of 26-24 to take the set and match.

The Panthers will be on the road for the next two weekends. First, Georgia State will travel to the Yellowhammer State to play Troy and South Alabama. GSU is 1-1 against the Sun Belt’s Alabama schools this season.
