By NU Athletic Communications

LINCOLN, Neb. – Former Huskers and current U.S. National Team members Jordan Burroughs and James Green are on the final legs of their training before heading overseas to wrestle at the 2019 Wrestling World Championships. The competition will take place Sept. 14-22 at the Barys Arena in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

To send them off before they head to Central Asia, the wrestling program is hosting a send-off party for the two Husker greats at the Railyard on Friday, August 30 from 7 to 10 p.m. The event is free for all attendees and Husker wrestling apparel will be available for purchase.

Burroughs, a native of Sicklerville, N.J., posted a 128-20 career record at Nebraska and captured two National Championships. He won the 2009 national title at 157 pounds and the 2011 title at 165 pounds. The former three-time Big XII Champion will be attempting to become the first American in any style to win five World titles (2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017). He also won Olympic gold in 2012. Competition for Burroughs (74kg) begins Sept. 20 and goes through Sept. 21.

Green, a native of Willingboro, N.J., also competes Sept. 20 - Sept. 21 at 70 kg. Green compiled a career record of 129-22 from 2011-15 at Nebraska and will be vying for his first career World title. He currently sits in fifth place all-time in career wins at NU and was a four-time All-American and NCAA Championships qualifier.

Burroughs has wrestled at 74 kg for Team USA for nine years in a row and this is also the fifth-straight year that James has represented the Red, White and Blue at 70 kg.
