Pete Aiello joined the William and Mary Athletics Department in November 2014 and serves as the Tribe’s Athletics Travel Coordinator. In his position, Aiello plans, organizes and coordinates travel, transportation and out-of-town lodging for 23 teams and individual travel requirements for coaches and staff members. He also manages and tracks the athletic department’s team and individual travel expenses.
An accomplished management and operations professional, Aiello brings a diverse background to William and Mary. Prior to joining the Tribe, he served 30 years with the United States Air Force band program having been assigned to the USAF Heritage of America Band at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, the United States Air Forces in Europe Band at Einsiedlerhof Air Station, Germany and the Secretary of the Air Force, Office of Public Affairs, the Pentagon, Washington, DC. During his three decades of distinguished service, Aiello performed in more than 21 countries. In addition to performing on trumpet, he also held key administrative and management positions as Director of Operations and Director of Human Resources and Finances. As an Air Force senior leader, while assigned at the Pentagon, Aiello held the position of Air Force Band Career Field Manager, the highest enlisted position in the United States Air Force band program. In addition to his role advising Air Force senior leadership on all band matters, he was responsible for managing the organization, professional development and training, personnel relocations, talent acquisition, funding and deployments for over 600 enlisted personnel encompassing 10 Air Force Bands worldwide. In 1997 and 1999, Aiello was selected as the United States Air Force Outstanding Band Noncommissioned Officer of the Year—the only two-time recipient of this award since its inception. Upon retirement, he was awarded the Legion of Merit. To date, Aiello is the only enlisted Air Force bandsman to receive this prestigious decoration.
Aiello also brings over 10 years’ of athletic operations experience to the Tribe. Spending most of his time in the sport of ice hockey, Aiello has been a head coach, assistant coach and team travel coordinator with the Peninsula Prowl and Ashburn Xtreme youth hockey clubs, as well as an assistant coach with the Oakton High School varsity ice hockey club in Vienna , VA.
A native of West Babylon, NY, Aiello holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia and a USA Hockey Coaching Education Program level 4 certification.
