Short story: The Great Danes’ offense totaled two third-quarter goals in their regular season finale and the UAlbany field hockey team defeated UMass Lowell, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon to clinch a playoff berth in the America East Tournament.
Katie MacCallum tallied her ninth goal of the season. She is second on the team with 25 points.
With the win, the Great Danes clinch a spot in the America East Tournament which will be held at Monmouth from Nov. 7-10. Six-seeded UAlbany will play third-seeded Stanford on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m.

Despite a 6-1 shot advantage in favor of the Great Danes, the two teams found themselves at a 0-0 stalemate at the break.
Coming out of halftime, UAlbany was quick to jump into action, scoring twice in the third quarter. MacCallum broke open the scoring in the 31st minute with her ninth tally of the season. Less than a minute later, Zarrilli finished a pass from Dana Bozek to double the Great Danes’ lead.
UMass Lowell’s Lindsey Kilpatrick converted one of the River Hawk’s three fourth quarter corners to make it a one goal game, 2-1, with three minutes to play. The River Hawks fired off a pair of shots in the final minute but could not get past the pads of Melissa Nealon who earned her 11th win this season.
Up next: Six-seeded UAlbany will play third-seeded Stanford on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the America East Tournament.
