Holy Cross Athletics   05-01-2019

WORCESTER, Mass. – Eighteen College of the Holy Cross varsity athletic teams have received Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) public recognition awards from the NCAA. These teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. Holy Cross finished in a four-way tie for first in the nation among all Division I athletic programs in the number of teams honored (18), matching the total of Brown, Columbia and Dartmouth.

“Our student-athletes at Holy Cross are always striving to achieve at the highest levels both in the classroom and in competition,” said Interim Director of Athletics Brendan Sullivan. “It is exciting to see these young men and women honored for all the hard work they put into their academic pursuits.”

The Crusader programs to receive public recognition awards this year are: baseball, women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, football, men’s golf, women’s golf, women’s ice hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, women’s rowing, softball, men’s swimming and diving, women’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, men’s track and field, and women’s track and field. Out of those teams, women’s cross country, men’s swimming and diving, and women’s swimming and diving were all recognized for the 14th year in a row, a feat accomplished by just 73 squads in all of Division I.

The APR is an NCAA tool that provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.

Full APR scores for all teams, including access to postseason play and penalties for low-performing teams, will be released on May 8.
