Paliani hat trick powers Rams over Lancers
WINDSOR, Ont. - Playing just outside his hometown, Devon Paliani (LaSalle, Ont.) scored a hat trick to lead the Ryerson Rams to a 5-1 win over the Windsor Lancers on Saturday night.
Paliani scored two shorthanded goals and added an empty netter to secure his hat trick.
Ryerson opened the scoring with five minutes to go in the first period when Cavin Leth tipped home a Matt Mistele pass. Paliani scored his first of the night less than two minutes later and the Rams held a 2-0 advantage after 20 minutes.
The Rams lead grew to three when Mistele wired home a power play goal six and a half minutes into the second period, but Windsor responded when John Wesley walked out of the corner and took a shot while spinning around to get the Lancers on the board. The pair of goals was all the scoring in the middle frame, and Ryerson continued to lead by two heading into the final period.
Ryerson got some insurance when Paliani scored his second shorthanded goal five minutes into the third period before he wrapped up the scoring with the empty netter.
With the win the Rams improve to 17-5-2 on the season and keep pace atop the OUA West standings as Brock also won on Saturday. Ryerson will be back in action on Friday, February 1 when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks for the annual school day game. Puck drop is set for 11:00 a.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
