Last second heroics lift Rams over Mustangs

By Cara Gilhula

LONDON, Ont. - The Rams came away with a 3-2 win over the Western Mustangs on Friday night. The Rams had third period goals by Mathew Santos and Matt Mistele who beat the buzzer to steal the victory.

In the first period, the Mustangs came out firing on the Rams and Spenser Cobbold scored less than two minutes into the period.

After the wake up call, the Rams started to control the middle with the forwards supporting the defense at the blue line.

Dupuis looked past his shaky start and continued to track the puck and make a number of saves to keep the Rams in the game during the first 20 minutes. Unfortunately, Dupuis had a tough break at the end of the first when he saved a shot from the corner and another bounce.  Then, the puck was loose and Kyle Langdon was sitting in front of the net to make it 2-0 for the Mustangs.

The second period remained scoreless, and the Rams continued to trail the Mustangs 2-0.

Fortunately, the Rams owned the third period. Santos scored his 18th goal of the year to put the Rams on the board during the end of their powerplay and 27 seconds into the third.

The Rams continued to trail the Mustangs, but with eight minutes left, Santos ripped his second goal of the game to tie the game 2-2.

It looked like the Rams and Mustangs were going to go into overtime after a tough 60 minutes. However, McCool made an outstanding pass to Matt Mistele. Mistele made a quick one timer with a single second to spare to give the Rams the 3-2 victory.

The Rams will travel to South Windsor Arena on January 26th to take on the Windsor Lancers at 7:30 p.m. For live updates tune in to or follow us on Twitter.
