Swiming And Diving Spilt At UNC-Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- In swimming and diving action Saturday, the Old Dominion men's team improved to 4-0 on the year with a 153-147 victory over UNC-Wilmington while the women fell to the Seahawks, 118-181. The Lady Monarchs fell to 2-3 on the year.
Patrik Balint earned victories in both the 1000 free (9:55.73) and 100 back (53.85).
The 100 back saw the Monarchs sweep the first three position. Following Balint, Mikael Ramkvist placed second in a time of 53.85 followed by Dan Gallagher in third with a time of 54.07.
The Monarchs went one-two in the 200 free and 200 back. In the 200 free, Chad Gangwer outswam all his competition for a time of 1:44.36, just ahead of second place teammate Kristofer Hagg, who hit the wall in a time of 1:45.01. The 200 back saw Ramkvist capture first place (1:55.09) with Gallagher taking second (1:56.26).
Kevin Latimer also brought home a first place finish in the 200 fly with his time of 1:56.46.
Josh Kinas led ODU to victory in both the 200 breast, with a time of 2:09.36, and the 200 IM, with a time of 1:57.34. Johan Lundberg was close behind Kinas in the 200 IM in second place (1:59.18).
Hagg improved from a second place finish in the 200 free to take a top finish in the 500 free (4:48.06). Hagg was followed by Balint's second place finish in a timoe of 4:50.74.
On the women's side, the Lady Monarchs had first place times in the 200 free, 200 fly, 100 free, and 100 back,
Kelli North brought home the 200 free (1:56.81). April Barrientos earned a victory in the 100 back as the only swimmer to log under a minute with her time of 59:69. Christina Gianni earned a top finish in the 200 fly with a 2:08.58 time. Hannah Kess was .02 second faster than second place in the 100 yard as she logged a time of 54.37.
The Monarch and Lady Monarch swimmer and divers return to the poll November 16-18 at the Davidson Invitational.
