Tallahassee, Fla.-----San Jose State University's record-setting wide receiver Noel Grigsby is one of 48 players named to the 2012 Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List. The award recognizes the outstanding pass receiver in college football and is named after the Oakland Raiders Hall of Fame wide receiver Fred Biletnikoff. He played his college football at Florida State, home of the Tallahassee Quarterback Club that sponsors the annual award. Grigsby, a junior from Los Angeles, returns to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List for the second year after earning second-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors. He was 12th nationally in pass receptions per game with his San Jose State single-season school record 89 catches for 886 yards and two touchdowns. Grigsby became the first Spartan with 800 or more receiving yards in his freshman and sophomore seasons. "Noel is a consistent receiver with exceptional hands. He has a knack of getting open," says football head coach Mike MacIntyre. "Noel displays great leadership skills and is one of our team captains as a junior. We count on him heavily in our offense on our team." One of just two players from the WAC named to the Watch List, Grigsby enters the 2012 season fourth on the San Jose State career pass-receiving list with 145. He is 15 catches shy of tying the school record of 160 set by Kevin Jurovich (2005-08) and begins the season with a 21-game streak of at least one reception a game. Grigsby is the latest Spartan named to a preseason Watch List. Earlier, defensive end Travis Johnson was named to the Rotary Lombardi and Bronko Nagurski Trophy; offensive tackle David Quessenberry and linebacker Keith Smith, Rotary Lombardi Award; punter Harrison Waid, Ray Guy Award; and tight end Ryan Otten, John Mackey Award Watch Lists. |
