Augusta, Ga.-----One of the top returning punters in the country, San Jose State University's Harrison Waid is one of 25 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) players named to the 2012 Ray Guy Award Preseason Watch List.

            The annual award honors the nation's top punter and is named after College Football Hall of Fame inductee Ray Guy who went on to have a stellar career with the Oakland Raiders.

            Heading into the 2012 season, Waid (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont High) is San Jose State's career leader with his 43.4 yards per punt average. He set a new single-game school record with his 58.6 yards per punt average in last year's win at Colorado State. He was 26^th nationally and fourth in the Western Athletic Conference with his 42.8 yards per punt average in 2011.

            "It's a great honor for Harrison and our football team. He's done a good job of punting for us and has worked to improve his directional punting. He's also able to get off the Aussie or the rugby punt. So, he has a lot of things in his arsenal," says San Jose State head coach Mike MacIntyre.

            As a second-team freshman All-America in 2010, Waid was 23^rd nationally with a 43.8 yards per punt average.

            The Augusta (Ga.) Sports Council manages the Ray Guy Award program. This year's award will be announced December 6 at the Home Depot College Football Awards program broadcast live by ESPN.

            Waid is the second San Jose State football player named to a preseason Watch List during the National College Football Awards Association's two weeks of Watch List announcements. Earlier, senior Ryan Otten was named to the John Mackey Award preseason Watch List for the best tight end in the country.
