Walnut Creek, Calif.-----For the first time in its long-standing football series dating back to 1900, San Jose State and Stanford will begin a season against each other on a Friday when the two teams kickoff their 2012 schedules. The
Spartans and the Cardinal will meet for the 66th time on Friday,
August 31, in a 7:00 p.m. (PDT) game that will be televised by the new Pac-12
Network. The 2012 game will be the 16th time San Jose State and Stanford meet in the season opener for both teams. The most recent occurrence was a year ago in Stanford Stadium. The only time the two squads played each other in San Jose State's Spartan Stadium in a season opener was in 1995. With
today's announcement, four San Jose State's games now are assigned for a live
broadcast and all regular season contests except for the September 22 San Diego
State game have a kickoff time.
