Andrea McCartney

Andrea McCartney enters her first season as the assistant volleyball coach for the USF Cougars. She has thirteen years of assistant coaching experience at the professional, collegiate and the junior development levels.

A native of Kansas City, Mo., she most recently served as a volunteer coach for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2008-10.

In her three years with the program, the Bulldogs posted an overall mark of 45-42.

McCartney previously spent five seasons as an assistant coach for the Winthrop Eagles from 2001-06.

Prior to her tenure at Winthrop, McCartney served as a volunteer coach at the University of Oklahoma in 2000.

McCartney served as an assistant coach at Bellevue University for the four years (1996-99) that her husband, head coach Joel McCartney, led the program. The two have joined efforts in coaching since 1996. She also served as an assistant to the Nebraska Tornados, a NVA league professional team, in 1998.

One of McCartney's great passions is the development of youth volleyball and seeing youth athletes succeed. Throughout her coaching career, McCartney has held several youth volleyball clinics and also served as a junior development head coach for the Midlands Volleyball Club from 1997-99.

McCartney was a four-year letter-winner (1992-96) at Bellevue University, where she earned MCAC First Team and NAIA All-Region honors at the outside hitter position. She also played one season for the Nebraska Tornados in the NVA Professional League as a defensive specialist in 1997.

She is married to Cougars' head volleyball coach Joel McCartney. The couple has two children, a daughter Kate (7), and son James (5).
