Terry Horton is entering his fifth year as men's and women's track and field assistant coach. Coach Horton's primary responsibilities include coaching the sprinting, hurdling, jumping and field-event athletes on the men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field teams.

During the past several years, Horton's athletes have set school records and earned scoring medals at MAAC Championships. Horton has helped to continue the success in these events, which are challenging to coach due to lack of on-campus track and field facilities.

In addition to his duties as track and field assistant, Coach Horton oversees the operation of the Marist Cross Country Invitational each September at Bowdoin Park. Coach Horton makes sure the course is accurate and well-marked, and his responsible for the timing and officiating of the meet.

"Without Terry, our home cross country meet does not happen,'' Director of Men's and Women's Track and Cross Country Pete Colaizzo said. "He does so much for our program, during all three seasons. He is an indispensible member of our team.''

Terry graduated from Arlington High School in 1966 and SUNY Cortland in 1970 and completed his Master's degree in Education in 1974. In 1970 he began his teaching career in Physical Education in the Arlington School District and retired from that position in 2003. During that time he coached Cross Country, Winter and Spring Track.

In addition to his coaching Terry served at various times as DCSL Cross Country chairman, Section One Girls' Cross Country coordinator, Section One Girls' Spring Track coordinator, and New York State Girls' Spring Track coordinator. He was Meet Director of the Arlington Invitational Relays, the 1979, 1983, and 1989 NYS Cross Country Championships, and has been Site Director for the NYS Federation Cross Country Championships at Bowdoin Park since 1989. Terry is a charter member and past president of the Dutchess County Track Officials and Coaches Association.

Following his retirement from Arlington in 2003 he undertook the job of restarting Cross Country and initiating Indoor and Outdoor Track at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, where he coached athletes to national championships in the pole vault, 100, and 200 meter dashes.

Complementing his coaching, officiating and administrating Terry also found time to compete. Starting as a sprinter in high school, he added the 400 hurdles in college and expanded his repertoire after college to include most races from 800 meters to the marathon.

The 64-year-old Horton lives in LaGrangeville with his wife Ruth, and three children, Beiasha 18, Dakaia 10, and Terlyka, 5.
