Holy Cross director of athletics Nathan Pine and head men's basketball coach Bill Carmody have announced that the Crusaders will take part in the 2016 Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational. In this prominent event, the Crusaders will play two home games and two road games against some of the top teams in the nation.
Eleven of Holy Cross' athletic teams have achieved a perfect score of 1,000 in the NCAA's academic performance standard, the Academic Progress Rate (APR). These 11 teams all had a perfect multi-year APR score (based on data from the 2011-2012 through 2014-2015 school years), which tied Holy Cross for 10th in the nation out of 356 Division I schools.
Fourteen College of the Holy Cross varsity athletic teams have received Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) public recognition awards from the NCAA. These teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The 14 total teams earning public recognition awards puts Holy Cross in the top 10 among all Division I athletic programs.
If the classroom counted on the scoreboard, these teams would be on top. No team entered the NCAA men's basketball tournament with a worse record than Holy Cross, a Jesuit liberal arts school with 2,855 students in Worcester, Mass.
Junior guard Robert Champion has been named the GoHolyCross.com Crusader of the Week, for competition from March 14-20. Champion led the Holy Cross men's basketball team to its first NCAA Tournament victory since 1953 last week.
