Senior Steve Thompson won the 800m, sophomore Christian Roberts won the mile, and SJU's 4x400m relay qualified for the IC4A Championships to lead the Saint Joseph's men's track and field squad to a second-place team finish at the season-opening Jack Pyrah Invitational, hosted by Villanova and held at Haverford's Alumni Field House on Saturday afternoon.
The Saint Joseph's men's track and field squad returns 12 Atlantic 10 medalists and nine IC4A scorers from last season alone and 40 letterwinners in total for the 2017-18 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. The Hawks welcome 13 freshman additions out of Pennsylvania (7), New Jersey (4), Delaware (1), and New Hampshire (1). Head coach Mike Glavin, now in his 29th year at the helm, has selected senior short sprinter David Henderson, senior long sprinters Kenny Evely, Dan Ferraiolo, and Barren McCoy, senior middle distance standouts Dave Garton and Steve Thompson, and the veteran distance trio of senior Collin Crilly, senior David Dorsey, and graduate student Dan Savage to captain the Hawks this year.
Saint Joseph's men's track and field senior standout Dan Savage have received United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic honors for their individual performances during the 2016-17 season. Additionally, the men's track and field squad has earned USTFCCCA All-Academic team honors for the fourth year in a row.
